The evening of Day 17 very nearly involved a twitch to Norfolk but to my relief the bird disappeared at lunchtime and we decided it was too far to go without positive news.
Instead we went for an evening stroll around Broom Gravel Pits. It was one of those beautiful warm evenings where the birds were singing and plenty of insects were still on the wing.
Matt entertained himself chasing moths and I tried and failed to photograph the damselflies that were resting on the vegetation. We were treated to fantastic views of a cracking looking hobby perched in a tree before it hawked off over the fields.
Eventually we wandered back to the car and ended our evening with wine, a children’s film and Ben & Jerry’s – perfection!
